Welcome to 5C!

5C Cultural Center was the inspiration of five lower east side residents during the early 1980s. With firm roots as artists, educators, gardeners and urban homesteaders, we survived the turbulent times of “alphabet city”. Thus we share a belief in retaining the best historic and cultural traditions of the neighborhood while continuing to foster empowerment in this diverse community. We now have an amazing, jazz loving chef, who makes deliciously fresh and creative vegetarian food.

PLEASE COME TO A CD RELEASE PARTY AND PERFORMANCE for the release of
the CD Transformation Keyboard duets by Lewis Porter and Marc Rossi
On the Altrisuoni label (available iTunes, eMusic, CDBaby,
      Altrisuoni.com, etc.)

The music on this CD is a collaboration between two pianists/keyboardists who are longstanding friends and colleagues: Lewis Porter —-also known as a jazz historian, and Rutgers-Newark professor—and Marc Rossi—also known as a composer, and Berklee College professor.
(SEE Lewisporter.com, Marcrossi.com) They met initially at the University of Rochester in 1971, and performed in Boston during the years around 1980. They have much in common—-the love of jazz, of 20th century “classical” music, Indian music, and all kinds of improvisation. Yet they each have, they hope, a distinctive voice, so that the two complement each other. At 5C they will be playing on a grand piano and a Yamaha synthesizer. The repertoire includes:
Classic “Standards”: Body and Soul (Johnny Green) The Blues Classics by Jazz Composers:
Ezz-thetic by the late George Russell Ostinato by Herbie Hancock
Iris by Wayne Shorter) After The Rain by John Coltrane

      Original Compositions:
      Rama Priya (Marc Rossi)
      Slow Counterpoint (Porter/Rossi)
      Moving Triangles (Rossi/Porter)
      Law of Three (Rossi)
      Ping Pong (Porter)
      Another Voyage (Porter)
