Saxophonist Daniel Bennett (www.danielbennettgroup.com) is most known for his unique musical mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism. This “Folk-Jazz” style has earned the Daniel Bennett Group a dedicated cult following in both jazz and folk circles. The Daniel Bennett Group has shared concert stages with Bill Frisell, the Charlie Hunter Trio, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood), saxophonist James Carter, David Fiuczynski (Screaming Headless Torsos), and Denison Witmer. The Daniel Bennett Group has recently performed live on Harvard radio’s popular Jazz Spectrum show on WHRB 95.3. Daniel Bennett began his career performing in Rochester, New York with jazz artists Ike Sturm, Ted Poor, and Joe Santora. In 2002, Bennett moved to Boston to pursue a Masters degree in performance at the New England Conservatory. At NEC, Bennett performed with artists like Steve Lacy and Bob Moses. Daniel Bennett also studied saxophone with Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, and Ken Radnofsky. In 2004, Daniel Bennett began to write compositions that employed folk melodies in a jazz trio format. Bennett’s chord progressions also maintained a unique minimalist quality, influenced by composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass. The Boston Phoenix described Bennett’s style as, “an unusual folk-minimalist approach.” This niche-oriented style helped to garner a devoted following across the United States.
The Daniel Bennett Group has released three critically acclaimed albums, A Nation of Bears, The Legend of Bear Thompson, and Live at the Thetare. Bennett will be joined by guitarist Chris Hersch and Rick Landwehr on drums. Metronome Magazine raved, “the trio is so in sync with each other that it’s downright mystical.” The Daniel Bennett Group can be heard at clubs and festivals across the United States.

      Hal Weary

Hal Weary is an American pianist and composer who was immersed in a musical family, which cultivated his passion for music. Owen Cordle, music critic for the New York News Observer writes, “Like Ray Charles, Horace Silver, Richard Tee, James Williams and Cyrus Chestnut, Hal Weary has the gospel sound in his piano playing and writing.” Weary began formal lessons at the age of 10, but gained his earliest professional experience playing gospel in his hometown at the age of 5. Weary recieved a B.A. in Music degree from San Jose State University and Master of Music degree from William Paterson University where he studied with jazz legends Harold Mabern, James Willisms, and Dr. Billy Tylor, among other great jazz innovators. He also won numerous awards and high recognition at festivals and competitions around the world. Currently, Weary is performing with world-class musicians from around the globe. Possessing a strong foundation in stride, bebop, hard-bop, and post-bop he has also explored Afro-Cuban rhythms, World music, and other directions with various ensembles. Hal Weary brings a distinctly artistic touch to his jazz compositions and piano playing. His feathery keyboard touch is coupled with a lot of content at any time to rest on his laurels, Weary has been involved in quite a few important musical projects, and his musical curiosity has never dimmed. Despite his peripatetic activities all around the musical map, his piano style is ever evolving into tougher, even-more-complex forms.
